Just when you thought you "finished the fight," it's not over just
yet. By now we've all seen the new trailer for the upcoming Halo 3:
Recon and I'm sure all the Halo fanboys out there can't wait. Although
the game doesn't feature the iconic Master Chief or Cortana, Bungie
still plans to deliver all the action you would expect from a Halo
game. This time however, it will be from an all new perspective.
Halo 3: Recon is basically a side-story that takes place in the city
of New Mombasa. The storyline takes place between the events of Halo 2
and 3 after the Covenant have already taken over Earth. You are an
lone UNSC Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST) who lands in the leveled
city. The ODST doesn't have the same abilites or armor as Master Chief
so you are more vulnerable to enemy attacks. On the other hand, you
will receive guidance from an AI helper called the Superintendent. The
Superintendent will offer guidance through New Mombasa which gives
players a different approach to the game then what Cortana was for
Master Chief. New Mombasa will not be the only location where you take
the fight, but Bungie has said that the game will be concentrated in a
specific area compared to the many different galactic locations found
in the trilogy.
Although not much is known about Recon, we can tell you that most of
the elements found in Halo 3 are here as well. You'll be able to play
the main campaign both in single player as well as up to four people
in co-op multiplayer. When it comes to Halo it's always been about
"running and gunning" along with "shoot first and ask questions later"
type of gameplay, but now there are moments where stealth will come
into play. How this will work in the game still remains to be seen.
The multiplayer mayhem found in Halo 3 returns in Recon. The game will
feature all new maps with all the gametypes you love including Slayer,
Team Slayer, Capture the Flag, Big Team Battle, etc. There is no word
yet if Forge will be available so keep your fingers crossed on that
one map creators. Also included with the game are two map packs. One
of them is the Mythic Map Pack which by the way is available for
download in early 2009. The other is still unknown, but I'm sure it
will be announced towards the release of the game. Each will feature
its own set of brand new achievements for you to earn.
There are still so many questions to answer about Halo 3: Recon before
its eventual release. Questions like who is this ODST and why is he
all alone? Who exactly is the Superintendent and what is his actual
purpose? Halo fanboys out there really want to know if Master Chief or
even Cortana will make some sort of cameo appearance. Well we've got a
long wait until then, and we here at SFX360 will have all the answers
when they become available so keep checking in with us for all the
latest info and updated previews and remember to "Keep it Clean."
