Guitar Hero started what became aptly known as the music/rhythm genre. Where we once had to purchase expensive music and sound equipment, we can now simply purchase a console and a series of peripherals to make our music. Some have accredited these games as the new means to meet and mingle with music while others have condemned these tools as means to perpetuate our own laziness, and diminish our drive to practice with real instruments. Well, in the end what do we care. We just need to turn on our console and rock on, it also helps that the music drowns out everything else as well.
DJ Hero

Each and every game that has ever come out under the genre music/rhythm has strived toward the one goal of making you feel like a rock star. For the most part Guitar Hero and Rock Band have successfully mastered the art of appealing to the masses with each new release. However, what would it be like to be a DJ? Well the makers of Guitar Hero have brought to you the answer to this question in the form of Activision and Freestyle Games’s DJ Hero. No game has yet to render the use of a turntable as well or as proficiently as this new title, and because of this fact DJ Hero represents an innovation in the music/rhythm genre that will keep others following for years to come.
The Beatle’s Rock Band

When it comes to quality then the makers of Rock Band, Harmonix are very loyal to their fans. This is clearly justified by their most recent work on the Beatle’s Rock Band. Designed to bring the lives and careers of the hit band to life by allowing you to play through their most notable routines and their most acclaimed songs. Instead of simply taking the outline for the original Rock Band 2 and pasting in the characters for the Beatle’s, the game is reworked from the ground up to embody the ideas of the band including their musical work and their unique groove. If you are a real fan of the Beatle’s then there has never been a game that captures the essence of their music in the way that The Beatle’s Rock Band does.
Guitar Hero 5
The Guitar Hero franchise was essentially the start of the music/rhythm genre but after its split with Harmonix it has been facing off against its direct competition Rock Band for the past few years. The newest title that Guitar Hero has brought to the table to maintain its ground (excluding Band Hero) is Guitar Hero 5. Designed to be more liberal and customizable the game doesn’t seek to limit you to any preset standard s in the genre, but instead it seeks to encourage some degree of individuality, for instance all players can essentially play the same instrument in any given song. In the end, do these small changes make Guitar Hero any better than Rock Band, you be the judge.
