Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 Supports PS3 Motion Controller, New Screenshots & Details

EA Sports is showing that regardless of what has happen in his personal life, the Tiger Woods show must go on. With that said, let's talk about the new Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11. This year's cover will feature Tiger Woods but for the first time, that I can remember, Tiger will not be the only one gracing the cover. Joining him will be Rory McIlroy. As Tiger represents the US, Rory will represent the Europeans. Can you take a guess as to why there are two cover athletes this year? Simple; Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 will be bringing the action and excitement of the Ryder Cup.

“This is a huge honor for me to be the on the cover with Tiger Woods as I grew up idolizing Tiger,” said McIlroy. “The Ryder Cup has always been my favorite sporting event and the tournament is being played at The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales in 2010. Also, I’m hopeful to have an opportunity to represent the European team later in the year – it’s all very special.”

It's all about working as a team in the Ryder Cup and in PGA Tour 11 you will be able to do just that. Another first in the franchise will be the ability to have up to 24 players going head to head in the Ryder Cup online. You will even be able to talk strategy online on either Xbox Live or Playstation 3. Speaking of Playstation 3, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 will support Sony's new Playstation Motion Controller to give gamers a more authentic swing experience. This is the first I have heard of a date regarding the release of the PS3 Motion Control so this is big news.

As for Wii owners, two new enhanced swing mechanics will be available with the help of Wii-Motion Plus. The Advanced Plus swing difficulty will read rotation and swing angle while the Tour Pro swing mechanic assesses rotation, swing plane and point of contact. The Tour-Pro will also include the ability to go into first person perspective. no longer will you just see a golfer on the screen, YOU ARE THE GOLFER! That is a pretty neat idea, I can't wait to see how that is pulled off.

Tiger Wood PGA Tour 11 will be available June 8th, 2010 for Xbox 360, Wii, Playstation 3, and iPhone platforms. Check out the cover and brand new screenshots below.

Ryan Kesler Named NHL 2K11 Cover Athlete

Last week we announced that NHL 2K11 will be a Wii exclusive for this year. Today I bring you the cover boy who will be gracing the Wii cover of NHL 2K11 and his name is Ryan Kesler. Vancouver Canuck forward and 2010 Olympic hero, Ryan Kessler was drafted in 2003 as the 23rd overall pick in the first round. Kesler has been with the Canucks most of his career and has 19 goals, 40 assists, and is plus 3 in 65 games played this season. Don't forget about his back-to-back hat tricks earlier this year.

"Having the opportunity to participate in the Olympics and play in front of my home crowd was one of the best experiences of my life.  To now be chosen as the next cover athlete for NHL 2K11 is another dream come true," said Kesler, alternate captain for the Vancouver Canucks.  "It was awesome to work with 2K Sports last year on the NHL 2K10 commercial shoot and the outdoor motion capture session on the Las Vegas strip was incredible to be a part of.  I'm looking forward to having just as much fun again, and helping them make another great hockey game this year."

"Ryan is one of the most talented and exciting players to watch in the NHL today and his popularity has grown exponentially since the recent success of Team USA at the Winter Olympics," said Greg Thomas, senior vice president of sports development for 2K. "We're thrilled to have him represent NHL 2K11 and wish him the best of luck through the rest of this season."

NHL 2K11 will be available this Fall.

Microsoft to Unveil XNA Game Studio 4.0 at GDC This Week

Microsoft is set to unleash some big news this week at GDC where they will unveil the new XNA Game Studio 4.0. The latest version of which is built to provides a powerful, productive, and portable technology for game development on Windows Phone 7 Series, Xbox 360, and Windows PC.

Features of XNA Game Studio 4.0

  • Hardware accelerated 3D API’s on Windows Phone 7 Series
  • Visual Studio 2010 integration with our toolset
  • Added buffered audio support to the Audio API’s
  • And much, much more!

What does this mean to you? Well it basically means that games on Windows Phone 7 Series phones are going to kick major ass because developers will be able to code a game once and then with the software, ahve it compile for use with either Xbox 360, PC, or Windows Phone 7 Series. This was demonstrated earlier last week during the TechEd Middle East conference. This could be Microsoft's Ace in the hole to get people back to using Windows based phones. I know the gaming aspect of Windows Phone 7 Series really has me intrigued and eager to see what direction Microsoft goes with this.

Update: This FAQ was just posted up on the XNA Creators Club Website

Q: What is XNA Game Studio 4.0?
A: XNA Game Studio 4.0 is a software toolset used by both managed and non-managed developers to create games for Windows Phone 7 Series.

Q: What are the new features of XNA Game Studio 4.0?
A: XNA Game Studio 4.0 is the first toolset for game development on the Windows Phone 7 Series, available in a single download to managed and non-managed developers. This includes the addition of Xbox LIVE APIs that bring popular features from Xbox LIVE to the phone, available to managed developers. All developers have access to the XNA framework, including powerful managed code that helps to create better games faster for Windows Phone 7 Series.

Q: What is the difference between being a managed developer and a non-managed developer?
A: Managed developers are a select group of publishers that Microsoft has partnered with. Managed developers for Windows Phone 7 Series will be able to integrate Xbox LIVE features into their games. Their games will be sold on the Windows® Phone Marketplace and will receive premier placement on the games hub. Non-managed developers will have access to the same development tools, but without Xbox LIVE capabilities. Their games will be sold on the Windows® Phone Marketplace.

Q: When will XNA Game Studio 4.0 be available?
A: XNA Game Studio 4.0 will be available for download in the coming month. Additional information can be found online at the XNA Creators Club Online site at http://creators.xna.com.

Q: Is XNA Game Studio 4.0 a completely managed code platform or can developers use native code?
A: XNA Game Studio 4.0 is a managed code platform, which means that Microsoft has done the back-end work that will save developers time in the coding process. It allows developers to be more productive and focus on gameplay and design.

Q: How easy is it to port a game from Xbox 360, Windows or Zune to Windows Phone 7 Series?
A: XNA Game Studio 4.0 makes it possible for developers to adapt games built on previous versions of XNA Game Studio to work on Windows Phone 7 Series without re-coding the entire game. Also, once a developer has created a Windows Phone 7 Series game, they can use some of that code in XNA Game Studio 3.1 to adapt that game for Xbox 360, Windows or Zune.

Q: How will Xbox LIVE work on Windows Phone 7 Series?
A: For the first time ever, managed developers can bring Xbox LIVE features to a mobile phone. The Windows Phone 7 Series games hub will provide access to a managed portfolio of Xbox LIVE and non-Xbox LIVE games. It also lets users:

  • Collect Achievements and build their Gamerscore
  • View Xbox LIVE Leaderboards
  • See their Xbox LIVE Avatar
  • Access Spotlight feeds
  • Add Xbox LIVE friends to their friends list while out on the go
  • Turn-based (asynchronous) multiplayer gaming

Gran Turismo 5 Hearts NASCAR!

So it look like Gran Turismo 5 is set to feature the most diverse amount of racing action on any console. Not only will you be racing exotic and real world cars, but you will also now get a chance to get behind the wheel of a stock car. Yes, Gran Turismo 2 will feature America's pride and joy, NASCAR. We haven't seen a NASCAR game since EA's previous series but now its time to let Polyphony have their go at it.

Judging by the video, it looks like Gran Turismo 5's version of NASCAR will be uber realistic and feature all the liscensed vehicles and sponsors from the series. My only concern however is that they get teh crash physics correct because honstly, the only reason I ever tried playing any of the old NASCAR games before was to cause huge accidents.
